Black 1956 car. Body beyond slavage. Good engine, gearbox, diff, mechnicals and a few pannels. A lot of parts were stored inside but the shell was outside and rusted badly. Was advertised for sale here a few years ago - has a multi-coloured bonnet in the ad. Being used as a donor to repower a 1953 Wolseley 4/44 (one of the first cars). Some parts I won't need have already been passed on to other Magnette owners.

Bought new from Mebes and Mebes Mill Hill by Mr Turnbull. Fitted with optional HMV valve radio at a cost of £39 5s 5d (which still works) and driven back to his home in Newcastle. He kept the car for the rest of his life, I believe it has covered less than 30000 miles and had some restoration work done in the late 80s, he sadly passed away in the mid 90s when his wife covered the car up in the garage and was not used again. I bought the car in May '14 and it is undergoing recommissioning work by me which is now nearly complete.

ebay 01/2008: UNFINISHED RESTORATION DUE TO BEREAVEMENT. The restoration of this car was being completed to a 'usable' concourse standard and regardless of cost. The financial out lay to date is approimately £25,000, with 100’s of man-hours and four years work to get the car to this stage. Every part of it is either brand new or restored. The re-trimmed interior is of high quality soft leather with contrasting piping. New carpets. All wood has been re-veneered. Disc Brake converted. New wire wheels and tyres. The new engine has never been running. All suspension parts and bushes are new. The axle, 'A' arms castings have been painted - flatted - painted etc to remove manufature imperfections.  The body shell has been professionally restored. There is absolutely no body filler. All panel finishing has been done using lead. Just needs paining and re-assembly of the trims. Only a few weeks work left to do. All parts are complete to finish the restoration.

Last MOT'd 2000. Not used since 2001. Has ZB power unit. Very well restored at some point (ie inner wing skins intact, front wings not welded to sills) but lost jacking pts & all chrome. Log lists it as a 1954 car with 1800 cc engine (both untrue) and the MSV registration does not make sense. Should be back on the road sometime in some guise later this year. Jeremy Woolley

The picture was taken on the Albula Pass (Canton of Grisons, Switzerland) at an altitude of about 2100 m. The car is an exellent climber and until now I never had problems with overheating, not even on the Stelvio, with more than 2800 m the peak of all European passes.
The car was first registred in Basel, Switzerland, on October 1st, 1956 as a RHD export version. During the fifties it was not unusual to drive RHD cars in Switzerland. The car always remained in Switzerland, having a extensive restauration in the early eighties. Since then the various previous owners did not use the car often, so it is still in perfect condition and very reliable.

The car was an export model purchased in the UK by its original owner with the intention of exporting back to the US. I purchased the car from the estate of a wealthy doctor who used it as his summer car on Long Island, NY. I am its second owner. Apart from a re-spray it has never been restored. I guess he got tired of the original grey - I would too as it is a bit drab! The car was always pampered and has so little rust it's unbelievable. I won't ever restore it as I love the original patina, but now I too am thinking about a slight change of colour. Fashions change you know. Eric Wilson,Vancouver, BC,Canada
